Oles Ulianenko

Oles Stanislavovych Ulianenko ((ウクライナ語:Оле́сь Станісла́вович Улья́ненко)) was born on August 14 (officially May 8), 1962, in Khorol of Poltava region – died on August 17, 2010, in Kyiv) was the most radical and the most cruel Ukrainian writer. He is the youngest laureate of the small Shevchenko National Prize. He was awarded it in 1997 at the age of 35 for his novel "Сталінка."
He was a prize-winner of the ‘’Suchasnist’’ and ‘’Blahovist’’ magazines.
==Biography==
Oles Ulianenko’s violent life was full of adventure and mystery. We know that he graduated from Mykolaiv Nautical School, was a Yakut shaman, fought first in Airborne forces against Germany and then in Afghanistan, he lived for two years in Leningrad, mingling with the legends of Leningrad rock music, played the guitar and tried to create a band, he made his living by underground boxing, was a novice at Lavra. He was divorced. He lived with his wife for seven years.
In 2000 with the director Andrii Donchyk he wrote the screenplay for the film "Украдене Щастя" based on the same name drama by Ivan Franko. This 4-series film was released in 2004.
Oles Ulianenko declared that his idea of the script of the film "Жмурки" was stolen.
The writer Yana Dubynianska said about the works of Oles Ulianenko the following: "Not everyone has the ability to read the prose by Oles Ulianenko. I would advise the people with vulnerable psyche, underaged and pregnant women, not to do this "
According to Oles Ulianenko, the Russian Orthodox Church anathematized him because of the book " Знак Саваофа".
On August 15, 2010 was presented the book “Oles Ulianenko. Without censorship’’. to the anniversary of the writer. The book included about 40 interviews of the author with various publications and television channels during years 1994-2010. Also, the book gives a detailed description of the course and documents of Oles Ulianenko lawsuit against the Ukraine’s National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality. They were prepared by the writer’s lawyer Oleh Veremiienko.
In 2009 the novel "Жінка його мрії" was recognized as pornographic according to the conclusion by the Ukraine’s National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality, the book was withdrawn from circulation. Varvara Kovalska who is not a philolog by education of National Morality recognized this novel like pornographic. It caused displeasure among some people. The Ukrainian cultural community was particularly shocked by the grammatical mistakes in the text of this resolution as well as the absurd accusations of excessive skill representation in erotic scenes.
The independent committee which consists of well-known literary critics, did not find any signs of pornography in the novel. The Head of the National Writers’ Union of Ukraine as well as the Head of the Committee on Culture and Spirituality of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Yavorivskyi wrote an appeal to the National Morality urging "not to make fool of the Commission and find a civilized way out of the situation ". He also said: "I consider your decision as affects such that freedom of creation in Ukraine and requires the rural ‘’Puritanism’’ of ’’ the Soviet times ‘’.
Some members of the National Morality also disagreed with the conclusion of Varvara Kovalska, as Andrii Kurkov and Pavlo Movchan stated in the press. Even the National Morality authority do not consider her circulation as the Commission's decision and declared their unconcerned. But in order to return the book on the book shelves, the writer was forced to appeal the conclusion in court.
However, later on it was found out that in the course of legal proceedings a negative expert conclusion of the Institute of Literature which was signed by the deputy head of the Institute, the Professor of Philological Sciences, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Head of an Ancient Ukrainian literature, Mykola Sulima, was on the hands of the Ukraine’s National Expert Commission for Protecting Public Morality. It stated that " if editors of the " Клубу сімейного дозвілля " had good taste, if they were people possessed of culture, if they knew the History of the World Literature, they would not let low-grade edition of tabloid reading material, which is the "Жінка його мрії". Mykola Sulima names the guilty ones of free of the law on Public Morality in his conclusion, first of all, this was the author of the preface by Ye. Chupryna, who starts the accusation and secondly the chief editor of the publishing house S. Shkliar who was responsible for the release K. Shapovalova, the editor O. Krasiuk. In the text of the expert conclusion by the Professor of Philology, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine the word " lezbianism (лезбіянство) " ( is used with a letter "z" ) and the laws of syntax are violated.
Some believe that the ban of the book has some political reasons.
On December 2009, a new Oles Ulianenko’s book was published. It was a criminal melodrama called " Там, де Південь ". It was the last work by the writer, first published during his life.
On April 2010 a new edition of " Жінка його мрії" was published, its presentation was held in a provocative literary and artistic performance in the Kiev Gallery " Karas ".

Oles Ulianenko died on August 17, 2010 in his apartment in Kiev. He was buried in Kiev Baikove Cemetery (Section number 33).
Nadiia Tenditna’s " The Aesthetics of Death in the Prose of Ye. Pashkovskii and O. Ulianenko " thesis is an example of the literary research of Oles Ulianenko works.
